Health & Environment Secretary to Offer Keynote at LIFE Project Annual Meeting

The Kansas LIFE Project Annual Meeting will feature a keynote address by Roderick L. Bremby, Secretary of the Kansas Department of Health & Environment, who will discuss the challenges Kansas policymakers face as the number of citizens living with serious chronic and terminal illnesses grows.  Bremby will challenge participants to envision and strive for a healthy Kansas, where serious illnesses are more often prevented and where Kansans and providers work together for a healthier citizenry.

Kansas has a growing number of citizens living with serious chronic and terminal illnesses.  Healthcare needs for these citizens are substantial and costs are high.  Fortunately, numerous agencies and organizations across the state are working diligently to make things better so that each day of life, even for those who are very ill, may be lived with dignity, comfort and peace.

These and other issues will be discussed at the Kansas LIFE Project Annual Meeting, “LIFE Matters:  Achieving Excellence in Care for Kansans Living with Advanced Chronic and Terminal Illnesses,” to be held November 19, 2004, from 9:00 – 4:00 pm at the Wichita Marriott.

Following the symposium, the Kansas LIFE Project and its Project Partners will honor leaders from across the state in the first-ever “Champions for LIFE” Gala, to be held in the Grand Ballroom at the Mariott.  The festivities begin at 6:00 pm with a reception, dinner, awards presentation and a dance.  Opening remarks will be made before the awards ceremony by Grammy nominee, Karen Taylor-Good.

Registration for the meeting only is $49; for the meeting and Gala, $99 (if registered by November 1); and $75 for the Gala only.  A full brochure and registration materials are available online at www.lifeproject.org., or by calling, toll-free at (888) 202-5433.  Registrations are being accepted online, with a credit card payment option, or by mailing the completed form and conference fee to the Kansas LIFE Project, 1901 University, Wichita, KS  67213.  The deadline to register is November 10.  Continuing nursing education credit for licensed nurses has been applied for.
